2/28/2023 0 Comments Joplin globe obits![]() He loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and was a wonderful grandpa and uncle. He also loved to fish, golf, play guitar, play games and dance. He loved the Lord and was attending Joplin Full Gospel Church. Army for six years and was a veteran of the Korean War. A welder, ironworker and carpenter all of his working life, he served in the U.S. He had lived in the Joplin area off and on for over 30 years. 13, 1930, in Jay, Okla., he was the son of the late Jack and Charlotte Mae Tate Johnston and had been living with a sister the past five years. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Landmark Hospital following a long-term illness. Vincent Johnston, age 78, of Webb City, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Avilla Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Butterfield. Monday, July 14, in the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel in Sarcoxie. five grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren three great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Eleanor Winters, of Wichita, Kan. He is survived by his wife, Margie Hall a daughter, Betty Weaver, of Carthage two sons, Terry Hall, of Joplin, Mo., and Homer Hall and wife, Lea Ann, of Hendersonville, Tenn. Columbus was a member of the Avilla Methodist Church. After retirement, Columbus and Margie lived in Purdy, Mo., for three years before moving to Sarcoxie, Mo., in 1983. He then decided to become a painter and did so until his retirement in 1980. Besides farming, Columbus also worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Avilla School District for seven years. ![]() After one year they moved back to Missouri, where they bought a farm east of Avilla. He retired from farming in 1964, and moved his family to Glendora, Calif., where he worked as a gardener for the Covina School District. Journalism groups, including the New York State Associated Press Association, argue that the change would harm the public’s right to know. ![]() Nonetheless, the proposal has proven divisive. And exceptions would be made in cases where the interests of law enforcement outweigh the right to privacy. The measure would apply only to state agencies local jurisdictions could implement their own rules. “Passing legislation that prohibits websites from charging fees for removing photos has been tried by 15 other states and is not working. “The intent of our proposal is to help curtail an unethical practice that amounts to extortion of formerly incarcerated individuals,” Jason Conwall, a spokesman for Cuomo, told the Albany Times-Union last month. Mugshots remain in the public record, even if charges are dropped or the person has served their sentence. Cuomo cited the rise of websites that post the information and then demand payment from the person in question to take the photo or booking information down. Andrew Cuomo recently proposed a change in the state’s freedom of information law that would block the public release of criminal mugshots and arrest records. That issue is on the minds of lawmakers in New York state-and by extension, groups focused on journalism, law enforcement, inmate rights, privacy, and open government.
